Dear Readers and faithful friends,

After a number of years of wonderful blogging, this blog has effectively become dormant - except for occasional updates regarding my book, MAXDOG. I have left this blog as a legacy to my dog and a place of sanctuary where we can reflect upon his life. Take your time, peruse the pages spanning Max's 18 months in cyberspace. Feel refreshed and uplifted because his story is an amazing one of..."LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX!"
My activities have now moved on to my new blog entitled "LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX". Please join me there where you can read about my family and canine companions. I also invite you to visit MAXDOG's FANPAGE on FACEBOOK. You can follow the specific links by clicking below:

702 WALK THE TALK

mmmWOOF!
Us dogs have been so excited to tell you about our BIG WALK last Sunday. It has been enormously frustrating not having a computer at home, but mom has managed to get a laptop just for this post. Hold thumbs all our computer hassles will be sorted out soon. We really appreciate your understanding in these matters.

It was Johannesburg City’s annual “702 WALK THE TALK” on Sunday and yes, we did get to take part! As you know, Mom was a bit reluctant for us to do the full 8km walk, due to our age and all the excitement, so we worked out a compromise and joined in half way to walk with the Boss, Toffee’s Mom and her boyfriend.

We got up at the crack of dawn on Sunday to hear our humans with their mutterings,” Walk….walk…walk..”, so we did our usual thing and ran trenches in their passage. Eish, it’s such fun to hear those words and the jingle of our leads!

Here are the much promised pictures of our wonderful walk…

50 000 Bipeds participated and 20 000 doggies. It was a lovely sunny day walking through the streets of Johannesburg. The pooches were all extremely well behaved and well socialised. What FUN!!!

Mom, Tammy and I waited at the half-way point for the Boss, Robyn (Toffee's Mom) and Robyn's boyfriend, Chris.

Mom had to take a picture of this beautiful golden puppy who came to cheer us all on.

There were lots of 'LORENZA' dogs, but none as nicely dressed as Lorenza! There were Siberian Huskies (in their gangs), lots of 'CLOUD' dogs - but no WONDERDOGS and lots of Golden's like us. Hamish - I don't think there are any dogs here in South Africa who look like you- you are one of a kind, most definitely! So too with dogs like Stella and Clive. Most of the other breeds were well represented. Eish it was fun to see them all stepping out!

We had special Doggie Watering holes where we had bowls to play in, water to drink and lots of treats! Veterinary nurses were on call to help with any doggies who didn't feel well. The Doggie Watering holes were sponsored by Royal Canin....well done, Guys!!!

Here is a pic of Me, Tammy, Mom and Robyn at the Watering Hole.

See the special Doggie water bottles which were handed out...lovely...they flip open so we can drink on the go.

Yep, it was hot and I cooled off my paws to avoid fatigue!

Mom and the Boss being pulled along by us.

The Boss and Robyn looking cheerful...it gave us time to check out the talent!

Yes, and we found a lake along the way (Emmarentia Dam) to swim in.

See all the other dogs who followed our lead...or did we follow theirs?

I was very tired at the end.

So we had another cool-off in the Doggie bowls. Check out Tammy and my bandannas which were given to ever dog who completed the race.

Here we are at the finish line.

....and when it was all over, I snoozed off my tiredness on Mom's bed.

All in all, it was a wonderful day!!! Can't wait for next year to come so we can do it all over again.

NO COMPUTER TO TALK TO YOU!...sob!

Dear Everyone...furry friends and bipeds!

We just wanted to let you know that we are having serious computer problems this end and will not be able to blog for a couple of days. Please be patient with us, but we'll be back to tell you all our stories as soon as we can....

For the record, we are all very well this end. (except that we cannot follow any blogs either) Our 702 WALK was fantastic! Mom took a million pictures. (which we have no way of downloading at the moment). But we will tell you all about it when we come online again.

Please just know that we love and miss you all already!

702 WALK THE TALK!

mmmWOOF! Hey there my friendly poochy-friends!

It's "walky time" in our friendy city of Johannesburg! On Sunday is the famous

702 TALK RADIO'S "WALK THE TALK".

50 000 people (many of them with their pooches) get together in the streets of our pretty city and spend time together just walking. Isn't that great, and guess what....POOCHES AND OTHER CANINES ARE WELCOME!

From us dog's point of view we are sponsored by ROYAL CANIN and we get lovely packs of all sorts of doggie goodies. Our pack even had new reflector leashes and lots of treats!!! Take a look below....yum! (I think I can eat that magazine too!)

WOOF!...WOOF!....WOOF!

So tomorrow, Mom will start to get us ready...YAY! She'll bath us and groom us to perfection. Mom says that we most likely won't do the whole walk (5kms,10kms,15kms or 30kms), because we are now 'SENIOR CITIZENS", but we will certainly be there to cheer all the doggies along and also to do a bit of walking and wagging.

Tammy and I have always participated in this event, but mom is a concerned mom and although we walk regularly (as you know), she feels that it might be a tad long for us with all the excitement included. I think that it is an excuse though...remember - she has sore feet!

Well, hold thumbs for us. We'll try and get lots of pics and ask the Boss if we can blow our budget and upload them so that you guys can see. (Unfortunately here in SA the internet is not free!). I'll pester the humans though....paws crossed all of you!

GROWING HAIR...

mmmWOOF! Hey everyone and happy WORDLESS WEDNESDAY!

The element of 'Wordless Wednesday' that applies to me today is that I am simply GOBSMACKED with the activities of my humans!

It seems that my favourite humans are trying to GROW HAIR?

Yes, you heard me correctly....

They are: TRYING TO GROW HAIR!!!!!

It seems that the Boss has a hair loss problem, so his daughters gave him this little contraption recently for Father's Day. Written in the card were these kind words:

"We see you can't grow your own, so this is to help you grow hair".

Since then, Mom has been watering the hair grower regularly and here it is!

Does this mean that my Boss must walk around with green hair? Why too must I pose with this silly device? Surely they don't want to compare it to my hair?

Humans.....????...Inexplicable!!!

THE COLD CONTINUES...

mmmWOOF!
Hey guys.

It’s been really freezing this side of the world and our days are spent huddling around heaters and begging to lie on laps, blankets and anything warm.
(It was -1degree Celcius when we got up this morning and the black frost has attacked the garden!)

Here is a picture of me begging to come up onto Mom's lap....
...the technique is this:
DIG YOUR NOSE INTO HER SIDE, HER LEG OR ANYTHING AND LOOK CUTE!

Unfortunately I didn’t quite get it right....TOFFEE did!
I think I should pull that blanket out from underneath him! Just look how he is eyeballing me!

Stay warm.

OUR WEEKEND

mmmWOOF!
Hi there all my special poochy friends!

Our weekend?....well it was a mixture of lots of things!
Firstly, it was Madiba’s birthday, so we were all tuned into the joyous celebrations here in South Africa and listening to how everybody was doing their ‘thing’ in support of the day – fundraising, working for charity, etc, etc.

My ‘thing’ was to get a bit of publicity going on my blog and you guys were great with all your comments and good wishes. Thank you for that. Hopefully they will all get forwarded to the great Man himself.... paws are crossed!

Secondly, Mom was recovering from those dreadful injections in her foot, so we just hung around her and gave her lots of encouragement and support. I carried around my toy Golden puppy and made funny faces to make her laugh.

But you can’t keep mom still for long, so she and Tammy’s mom gathered in the sitting room to try and organise the pieces for a new quilt she is making. She sat in her chair most of the weekend – watching Tour de France and sewing her quilt.

I am absolutely sure that that quilt is not going to be for us dogs because Mom was very fussy about us not putting our dirty paws on the pieces. Oh dear...would have been lovely to sleep on flowers!

Finally, I thought I'd throw a picture in of the yummy cake which Tam's mom and her boyfriend made this weekend... Oh how I drooled for a piece of that. Unfortunately - to no avail - they say its not good for dogs!

Take care and have a barkful week!

NELSON MANDELA ...... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Dear Mr Mandela

As a self-appointed blogging tour guide for this, our beautiful country, it would be remiss of me to not wish you:

A VERY, VERY HAPPY HAPPY AND BARKFUL BIRTHDAY!!!

On this your 91st birthday and on behalf of this household, we would like to extend our best doggie BIRTHDAY WISHES! I am 9 and a half years old, so that makes me about 69years old in human terms. I am rather young compared to you, but I’m already starting to feel my age, so I am in awe/paw of your longevity....and I too am trying to do my bit for a peaceful world.

We hope that you have the best birthday ever!!! You see, even the doggie world is alert to your fame. I am also a children lover, so we thank you for setting up the NELSON MANDELA CHILDREN’S FUND TOO and we hope that the world will take note of it’s good work.

Congratulations and THANK YOU for everything you have done for our beautiful country. All our humans are much happier with things here. The matters for DOGS, however, could do with a bit of attention. Is there any possibility that you could use your big influence to help the dire situation of our desperate doggies and animals all over our country. I was thinking that perhaps you could use some of that money towards our NSPCA and our training towards Veterinary Students. Perhaps this is not the right forum to address these matters, but maybe, just maybe you could think about it???

But really, we just wanted to wish you a wonderful birthday! And to show how serious I am, I make a commitment to restore peace between Toffee and myself in this household.

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! .....MAY PEACE AND LONG LIFE BE YOURS....YOU ARE ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS!

With lots of love and doggie licks from the MAXDOG HOUSEHOLD!

WE LOVE YOU ALL!

Hey Guys...yes...WOOOOOOF!!

Well, I was thinking, (Yes I actually do that sumtimes!):

If I look long and hard into the camera, I might just be able to touch your hearts and minds. I might just be able to convey my appreciation for the contact with all my doggie-friends over the world. I might just be able to tell them how much my mom appreciates our community of doggie-bloggers. And I might just be able to convey to you just how much mom loves me and how much I love her.
So, here I am...finding myself looking long and hard into Mom’s camera!
We love you all!

OUR HOUSEHOLD HAS SHRUNK!

Hey guys!

It’s Monday again and we are waiting to see what the week holds for us.

Well it seems that things are changing again in this household:

Both Toffee and Tammy’s moms are back at university now, so the household is very quiet! We dogs just have Mom around, which is quite ok, because maybe now she’ll give US some attention!

But I must say we are going to miss those ‘extra’ walks which we got when the girls were around. We’ll just have to wait for the weekends to get more walks and just accept our regular evening walk here with mom.

This is a photo of me taken yesterday: I look a little rattled don’t you think?

You see, Mom and Dad went off to ROSEBANK ROOFTOP MARKET and left me at home. I’ve taken some of her pictures to show you where they went. Mom says that this craft market is one of the nicest in South Africa and I must tell you that if you ever come to Johannesburg, you should go for a visit.

There are so many African curios there which you can buy. Mom went there to get a present for a friend and came back with plenty of photographs. It’s just a pity that I’m not in them, but unfortunately dogs are not allowed.

Here are some of the things you can buy there (at bargain prices)

...and of course... some wooden giraffes!
(methinks that Clive’s ‘little man’ will be interested in these...)

So perhaps, one day, you will consider visiting us here in South Africa....hope so :)

That’s all for now. Have a barkful week.
Love Maxdog
